SPF Checker

Validate SPF, count DNS lookups and view the full include tree.

About the SPF Checker

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is a TXT record that lists the servers allowed to send email for your domain. A domain may publish only one SPF record, and evaluating it may trigger at most 10 DNS lookups — includes, a, mx, ptr, exists and redirect all count.

The checker expands every include, counts lookups, flags syntax errors and shows exactly which mechanism matches a given IP. If you exceed 10 lookups, remove unused services or replace includes with ip4/ip6 ranges.

What is SPF?

Sender Policy Framework is a TXT record listing every server allowed to send email for your domain. Receivers compare the sending IP with this list. A record may use at most 10 DNS lookups (include, a, mx, ptr, exists, redirect) — above that, SPF breaks for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

What does a good SPF record look like?

For example: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com include:sendgrid.net ~all — one record, only the services you really use, ending in ~all or -all.

What is the SPF 10 lookup limit?

Receivers stop evaluating after 10 DNS lookups and return a permanent error, which usually means SPF fails. Our tree shows where each lookup comes from.

Should I use ~all or -all?

~all (soft fail) is the safe default while you set up DMARC. -all (hard fail) is stricter; use it once you are sure every sender is listed.

Can I have two SPF records?

No. Two records cause a permanent error. Merge them into a single v=spf1 record.
